The experience
Hierve el Agua is one of the most surprising places in Mexico: mineral springs have been running over the cliffs for thousands of years, leaving behind cascades that look frozen in time. From the top you look out over the mountains of the Sierra Mixe while the pools reflect the sky.
The road from Oaxaca City crosses the Tlacolula valley, so the day can include some of the best stops in the region: the giant Tule tree, the weavers of Teotitlán del Valle, the stone mosaics of Mitla and a mezcal palenque in Santiago Matatlán.
